Please see the attached flyer for information about an upcoming Ranch Riding Clinic open to all Pinal County 4-H Horse Project members! Registration is now open, and space will be limited to ensure an individualized learning environment for all participants. 

  - Date: November 7, 2026
  - Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (Check-in and warm-up begin at 8:15 AM)
  - Location: Apache Junction Rodeo Grounds, 1590 E. Lost Dutchman Blvd.,  

    Apache Junction, AZ 85210

Important Information:

  - Please ensure your member is enrolled in the 4-H Horse Project in ZSuites, and a current Horse ID Card is emailed in prior to the clinic. These are necessary for participation & insurance coverage. If you are having trouble with enrollment, please reach out to the 4-H Extension Office.

  - Helmets and western shirts are required while mounted.

  - An optional lunch will be provided.
  - Practice patterns are available on the registration form.

**If there is high demand, we will look into scheduling an additional clinic in the spring to ensure every member has an opportunity to participate.

Horse Project Meetings - Riding Evaluations

Dear 4-H Horse Families,

As we get ready to begin the 4-H horse project year, we want to make sure everyone is aware of an important requirement in our Horse Project Rulebook.

Before the first horse show, each 4-H member will need to have a riding evaluation completed by their Horse Project Leader. These evaluations help determine the appropriate riding division for each member and will be completed during some of the first horse project meetings.

Please take a few minutes to review the following resources before your first riding meetings:

Our riding divisions are:

• Beginner

• Intermediate

• Junior

• Senior Advanced

The evaluation applies to the riding divisions in Western, English, and Gymkhana. Please be prepared to talk with your Horse Project Leader about where you feel your child should be placed in each discipline. Your leader will work with you and your 4-H member to determine the appropriate level based on the rider's current skills and experience.

Please review the evaluation form and riding-level guidance before your first few horse project meetings. Leaders will be completing these evaluations during those early meetings, so coming prepared will help make the process go smoothly.

The goal of the evaluation is to make sure each rider is placed in a division that is appropriate for their current ability and provides a safe and positive experience at our horse shows.

 The Pinal County 4-H Horse Advisory Committee will be hosting TWO Horse Skill-a-Thon contests this season! You must be a current Pinal County 4-H member an enrolled in the horse or horseless project of your club. 

📚 Put your horse knowledge to the test! Points from both contests will be combined, and the Top 2 in each division will be recognized!

🏅 Divisions:
🐴 Junior - ages 8-10
🐴 Intermediate - ages 11-13
🐴 Senior - ages 14-18

📅 January 30, 2027 – Maricopa
📅 April 3, 2027 – Apache Junction

📝 Registration is OPEN in ZSuites! Registration will close one week prior to each contest, so don’t wait!

Annual HAC Meeting- RSVP is required

This is a friendly reminder that our Annual Pinal County 4-H Horse Advisory Committee Meeting will be held on:

 Saturday, August 15
 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Location: 4-H Office 

This meeting is an important opportunity to help shape the future of the Pinal County 4-H Horse Program, and we encourage all current 4-H horse families to attend.

We are currently seeking Certified 4-H Volunteers who are interested in serving on the Horse Advisory Committee Board. All board positions are open, and each position carries a one-year term. If you are passionate about supporting our youth and helping grow the horse program, we would love to have you consider placing your name on the ballot.

The Advisory Committee plays a vital role in:

• Organizing educational clinics and activities
• Planning and hosting horse shows and sorting events
• Supporting county-wide horse opportunities for our members
• Building partnerships within the equine community

If you have connections to arena facilities, judges, clinicians, sponsors, or other equine resources, your experience and relationships could make a tremendous impact on our program.

This will be the last reminder sent out about submiting your suggestions for changes to the rulebook. The suggestions will all be formatted into a document and be voted on by the new board at the fall meeting.

The Horse Advisory Committee (HAC) is currently accepting suggestions, edits, and proposed changes to the county horse rulebook. We encourage all families to take the time to carefully review the current rulebook and provide any feedback or recommendations you may have. Here is a link to the current county rulebook. Here is a link to the State Rulebook just for reference since we cannot change these rules.

Please keep in mind that many of our county rules align directly with the State 4-H Horse Rulebook, and those rules cannot be changed at the county level. However, there are several county-specific rules and procedures that may be reviewed and updated as needed.

We ask that all suggested changes be submitted to the HAC by July 15th. After that date, all submitted recommendations will be compiled into a formal document to be reviewed, discussed, and voted upon at the annual HAC meeting on August 15th by the newly elected Horse Advisory Board Committee. You may email your suggestions to pinalcounty4hhorse@gmail.com.

If you haven't heard, this week is rodeo week in Queen Creek.

The Friends of Horseshoe Park are expecting a large turnout of 4-H volunteers to help at Roots N' Boots Queen Creek in return for the funds they provided to the Town of Queen Creek on behalf of the Queen Creek 4-H club last year.

I understand that this is a Queen Creek event, but all 4-Hers are encouraged to volunteer, no matter where they reside.

If you are in need of community service hours, and you have not previously registered as a volunteer this past winter, volunteers need to check in daily at the rodeo administration trailer located behind the grandstands of the SE arena. See the red balloon in the attached image.

Let's show all the visitors to the town's signature event that 4-H is strong and vibrant in Queen Creek.

March 28th Horse Show Reminder 🐎☀️

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the March 28th Horse Show! We’re excited to see you all there for a great day of riding and fun.

The Horse Advisory Committee will be providing lunch (pizza) for all participants and volunteers. 🍕

With temperatures expected to be high that day, please make sure to come prepared. We recommend bringing:

• Plenty of water and drinks to stay hydrated

• Shade, such as pop-up tents

• Sunscreen, and anything else you may need to stay cool throughout the day

If you have not selected your volunteer position yet, now is the time to do so. These events run smoothly thanks to everyone pitching in. Please remember that volunteering is required in order to be eligible for year-end awards, so be sure to sign up for a spot.       Volunteer Here

The weather was perfect today and it was a simple and fun day! 

We have updated the annual points on our annual points tab on the blog. As always please look at them to help make sure we have not missed anything. 

Sorting scores will be posted soon as we are having a third set of eyes make sure we have tallied scores properly. 

We look forward to seeing you all at the final show March 28th at P&M Arena. Show registration will be opening soon. That show will offer Gymkhana, English, and a few Western classes.

• Update pattern book and send show patterns to President prior to show

• Ensures sponsorship tax eligible letters go out from the office by Jan 31

• Voting Member on policies and Horse Project activities

Treasurer

• Keep an up to date electronic ledger of account balance and all debit/credits

• Create a budget for the year - year end award and horse show estimates

• Provide horse show event reports at each meeting- how much received/expenses, etc.

• Reconcile HAC ledger with extension office Ledger

• Withdraw/deposit funds with Extension Office

• Responsible for paying for purchase orders, etc. (Ribbons, Buckles, Awards, Horse Show Expenses) 

• Voting Member on policies and Horse Project activities

• Responsible for volunteer sign up and tracking for each show 

• Responsible for managing and posting for social media accounts
