Dear 4-H Horse Families,
As we get ready to begin the 4-H horse project year, we want to make sure everyone is aware of an important requirement in our Horse Project Rulebook.
Before the first horse show, each 4-H member will need to have a riding evaluation completed by their Horse Project Leader. These evaluations help determine the appropriate riding division for each member and will be completed during some of the first horse project meetings.
Please take a few minutes to review the following resources before your first riding meetings:

Our riding divisions are:
Beginner
Intermediate
Junior
Senior Advanced
The evaluation applies to the riding divisions in Western, English, and Gymkhana. Please be prepared to talk with your Horse Project Leader about where you feel your child should be placed in each discipline. Your leader will work with you and your 4-H member to determine the appropriate level based on the rider's current skills and experience.
Please review the evaluation form and riding-level guidance before your first few horse project meetings. Leaders will be completing these evaluations during those early meetings, so coming prepared will help make the process go smoothly.
The goal of the evaluation is to make sure each rider is placed in a division that is appropriate for their current ability and provides a safe and positive experience at our horse shows.
