Alex made a motion to adjust the schedule to be showmanship then pleasure and then equitation/horsemanship. All were in favor! 

Planning for April Show at AJ Rodeo Grounds Amy will bring the Equipment trailer to AJ for April 1 show at AJ Rodeo Grounds - we have cones now! Square site has been updated to reflect April 1 date and location of show and registration is live. Food Vendor? working on it! Amy D. will post on social media about registration. Ranch Sorting- Next Maricopa County Sorting is same as our Show Day - April 1 - Rules on State Qualifying The Pinal County Quotas for Ranch Sorting Discipline for the Arizona State 4-H Horse Show is: 8 teams total Ranch sorting is open to all junior/senior members who meet the age requirements. Teams are determined by age not skill. Members can enter on only two (2) different teams with different partners. Open teams will be filled by a voluntary draw of members qualified from each county at the state 4-H horse show, if desired. If empty qualifier slots for Ranch Sorting are left, then mixed county team competitors will fill those slots based upon the highest number of cows sorted per mixed county team. That slot will be filled as a DRAW slot. Current Qualifiers: Lily, Macy, Becca, Dixon, Devin, Lilah, Samantha, Sonny, Paden, Sterling

 12/26/22 Meeting

It was great hearing from everyone tonight! We started the meeting at 6:08 with role call. After roll call we went over the secretary and treasurer reports.  Amy went over new sponsorship's and horse ID cards.  It was agreed that the money for the pizza paid for by Amy G at the clinic would go towards Lily and Macy 's sponsorship's. 

Some members have arranged to have a sorting lesson before Maricopa County's sorting competition this weekend. The kids can expect to learn the process of how sorting works along with helpful pointers on the sorting process. Can't wait to hear how everyone does! 

Next up, January 7 horse show.  Dawn thinks it will be best to cancel the event if the arena and grounds are unsafe for competition. Unfortunately some of our members will not be able to make this event so we have decided to move goat tying to another date and replace it with mystery class. We discussed the amount of ribbons we have in inventory: 1st 52, 2nd 33 and 3rd 57 along with grand champion.  Amy D suggested little trophy's or glass plates for grand and reserve champions. Registration will be at 8 with a meeting at 8:30 and a parent meeting at 8:50.  We will start with English classes. Dawn is hoping there will be a food truck on site for lunch options. Preregistration is required. We will not accept cash at the show. Trail obstacles are already at the arena so we need to remember cones and barrels. 

Amy G reminded everyone of the upcoming Southern Arizona Equine Healthcare Symposium on 1/21.

Not discussed at the meeting but worth a mention is the All Weather Get Together hosted by the Country Kickers.  It will be a great way for all Pinal County clubs to come together for fun and food  See their Facebook page for more information.

Meeting Day!

We started the meeting shortly after 6 p.m. with roll call. We went over the secretary and treasurer reports. A quick review of the show clinic with Richard Flowers reminded us that everyone progresses at their own speed and that showmanship and ground work are important parts of the process. Dawn was wondering if there was any interest in a similar clinic for the adults. Per 4H guidelines it would be available to leaders. Something to think about... 

Next on the agenda is the first horse show on 1/7/23 at the Pinal County Fairgrounds. The judge for that show will be Jenica Smekal. A question was asked regarding the need for a gymkhana judge. It was decided that we would have one person from each club at the rail to watch for forward motion. We talked about class list so Western plus Gymkhana and Goat Tying. Paden went over his ideas for Skill-a-thon. The show will start at 9 a.m. with check in at 8 and a meeting at 8:30. Patterns will be posted soon! Since we weren't able to have a parent volunteer meeting at the clinic laminated sheets for barrel and pole set up will be available at the first show. We will continue to offer a lead line class for the beginners. A motion was set that all kids should have a parent that volunteers at the shows in order to provide an enjoyable and smooth show.  Some of the available jobs are gate person, arena steward, announcer and score keeper along with pattern set up.  Look for the sign up sheets at the shows! Don't forget the $50.00 sponsorship fee is due before the first show. Make checks out to Pinal County 4H Horse Committee. Amy D. will work on getting a google form for the horse ID cards to be uploaded.  Watch for that on the blog.

Did you know Pinal County 4H horse has 20 members? We are excited to have everyone!

Due to a scheduling conflict for the May show.  It has been moved to 4/29/23. 

Amy Dillard was wondering if anyone would be attending the Maricopa County sorting event in December. This competition will not go toward year end buckles but a competitor needs to attend at least one to show at state. 

Dawn is hoping to have a fun and educational end of year celebration!  More info to come.

10/17/22 Meeting

Thanks to everyone that came and if you missed it...

After a rocky start our meeting officially started at 6:19 p.m.  There was a roll call.

The treasurer report recorded the current balance in both the checking and savings accounts. Amy noted that there is a check for $500 to cover Country Kickers returning members sponsorship's that has not been deposited.

We visited old business asking Amy D if she would continue with Square.  She stated that she had already posted the link online for sponsorship donations. Amy D reminded everyone that additional sponsorship money meant we could improve our current lineup of events or add additional different events and end of the year awards.  Next up was a discussion regarding the helmet rule adjustment made at the previous meeting.  It was discussed that the State rules regarding helmets differed from what we had decided previously.  Katherine motioned that we let the rule stand as is.  The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. 

Both Amy's went to the state show.  They were asked what the learned from the experience.  Amy G said "I learned how NOT to treat volunteers" and with that we discussed how to better aid our volunteers in the future.  We could also have a volunteer training during the clinic on 11/13.  We discussed how to ensure the volunteer expectations are known including a digital worksheet sent out before events and having laminated information available onsite.

New Business

Make sure everyone is signed up on Zingbooks and in good standing with 4H. All forms must be up to date including code of conduct form, horse ID and sponsorship forms.  In keeping with other counties we have decided to create a Google form where we store ID's along with a side view of the horses to better identify horse accuracy. The motion was made and unanimously voted yes.  We need to update the current list of volunteers on Google docs to better recognize our volunteers.  Volunteer approval is for 3 months. We then went over the show dates including events held by Maricopa County.  We decided that the clinic on 11/13 will be from 9-4 with the option to end early if the kids get tired.  It was voted unanimously. Amy D will add the registration link on Square.  We need our risk management plan for events planned per location.  The risk management plan needs to include what to do in an emergency and nearest hospital.  Will be created this week.  We went over necessary equipment to host the shows including barrels, cones, logs, rakes and trail equipment.  Bring then on 11/13 for the January show.  Amy D asked if we wanted to offer ranch riding and ranch trail.  If we choose to do so we should limit what classes are offered at each show eg. goat tying at the first show, ranch riding at the second, reining at the next... More information regarding ranch riding can be located on the state horse show page.  We discussed where warm up riding will be at the Pinal Co. Fairgrounds.  We could divide the arena or use other livestock areas.  

We decided that for goat tying we will offer a beginner version that will be with a ribbon for beginners who are not going to qualify for state. Country Kickers has a membership if approximately 13, Dust Devils have 3 and the Trailblazers are approximately 7. Amy G confirmed a horse membership of 21.  After a discussion regarding the shows that Maricopa County is hosting we decided that only Pinal County members can qualify for end of the year awards.  Any competition held outside of the registered county would only qualify the rider for the state horse show. The motion requested and voted unanimously. It was requested that each leader confirm email addresses with their group. We discussed the judging that will be held in Scottsdale in February.  More information will be provided at a later date. We will be going over Skill-a-thon in November to prepare for the first competition in January.  Alex requested that there be more scientific information included this year. Groom squad was discussed and decided to wait for now. Esther would like more horseless options to keep horseless members included.  Possibly in event production and they could audit the clinic. They should register for all skill-a-thon classes in the future. 

Victor noted that it is encouraging hearing everyone working together. He has ordered flags to use at our events.  He used funds from a community donor. We will provide a thank you letter from the kids.
