Volunteer Positions - Still seeking help!

Hello 4-H Horse Families,

We still have a few families who haven’t selected their volunteer slots for the upcoming November 15th show.

Please remember, the rule book states that to be eligible for year-end awards, families must volunteer in each discipline their child participates in. For example, if your kiddo shows in both Western and Gymkhana, you’ll need to volunteer in both areas.

If you’ve already selected your volunteer slot—thank you! At check-in, we’ll verify your assignment so your kiddo earns their volunteer credit.

Our shows run entirely on volunteer support—your help is what makes each event possible and ensures a successful year for everyone!

🐴 Horse Show Reminders – Let’s Ride and Shine! 🌟

We’re so excited to see everyone at the show on November 15! Remember — the most important rule of all is to have fun and show off all your hard work with your horse. πŸ’š

Here are a few friendly reminders to help keep things safe and smooth:

πŸͺ– Safety First!
A helmet is required anytime you’re on horseback — no exceptions. Protect those noggins!

πŸ‡ Riding Etiquette

  • Keep it classy — no cutting others off in the arena.

  • All horses should move in the same direction.

  • If your horse is having a tough moment, ride to the center of the arena until you’re excused.

  • Stay mounted until the class is complete and you’re excused.

🐴 Showmanship & Fair Play

  • Youth exhibitors must prepare their own horses — no adult help unless there’s a safety concern.

  • Once your horse is on the grounds, only the 4-H exhibitor may ride them. Adults/trainers can only step in for safety reasons.

  • Beginner/Intermediate riders may ride with two hands. If you start one-handed, you finish one-handed!

  • Western riders: use romal or split reins (beginners may knot split reins).

🎀 At the Gate
Be ready and listening — when your name is called, it’s showtime!

πŸ™Œ No Coaching During Classes
Cheering and encouragement? Absolutely! πŸŽ‰
Calling out instructions or coaching from the sidelines? Nope. Let your hard work shine on its own.

🚫 No Whipping in Front of the Cinch
Whips, bats, or spurs in front of the cinch are not allowed (this is good to know for Gymkhana)

πŸ“š Know the Rules
Be sure to check the State Horse Rule Book for tack and equipment guidelines. You can find it on our county blog or ask your horse leader if you’re unsure.

Let’s make this a fun, safe, and memorable show day — we can’t wait to see everyone in the arena! πŸ†πŸŽπŸ’š

Parking for Sorting Show Tomorrow

It’s been requested by the owners of the Rockin-A ranch that those participants hauling in trailers exercise care, consideration, and courtesy to the other haulers tomorrow night.

For some, it’s not their first time at this facility, for others, it’s their first.

TRAILER PARKING IS VERY TIGHT here, especially for those with longer rigs.

In order for everyone that needs to get to Buckeye immediately afterwards, it is important that we do not block the means of egress for anyone.

Please refer to the attached image.

There is only one exit & entry for this site, at the north end of the property along Grapefruit Dr.

Please enter and take the first right past the barn, then proceed counterclockwise around the stored trailers in the center of the yard.

Go as far clockwise as you can before settling on a position for the evening.

Following drivers, please give the driver ahead room to maneuver if necessary.

Do not park north of or block access to the alley between the barns on the east side of the drive south of the hot walker.

Do not park trailers in the clouded areas as those are for administrators, volunteers, and boarding tenants.

Do not obstruct access to the residence at the far north end of the property.

All spectators are asked to park along Grapefruit Drive and walk in, as seating is limited as well.

Parallel park on the edges of the drive where possible, or along the perimeter fence along the west side.

Shorter rigs can back up against the south fence where available.

There will be assistants on site to help with parking.

Please be patient and always afford the driver(s) behind you the ability to exit the site if they need to.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and let’s have a great sorting show for these kids who’ve worked very hard and waited all summer for this opportunity.

 Hello,

As we begin preparing for the new show season, we want to make sure everyone has access to both the County Rulebook and the State 4-H Horse Rulebook:

We encourage all horse leaders to review this material during your first horse meetings so that members and parents are familiar with the rules.

A few important reminders:

  • Horse ID Cards – Required from all riders 30 days prior to a show. Please email completed cards to pinalcounty4hhorse@gmail.com.

  • Sponsorships – The packet will be sent out soon, but please note that a $150 sponsorship fee is required for eligibility in year-end awards and the State Horse Show.

    • Payment can be made in full by November 15, or in two installments: half by November 15 and the balance by February 1.
